Position Description:
AIG has an opportunity for an Insurance Defense Litigation Paralegal in the Maitland Staff Counsel Office. The Paralegal will be responsible for collaboratively working with multiple attorneys within the Defense Base Act program.
The key responsibilities of this position include:
Drafting pleadings, motions, orders and settlements.
Answering and propounding discovery.
Analyzing, organizing and summarizing discovery and medical records.
Preparing attorneys for hearings, depositions, mediations and trials including, but not limited to, trial preparation activities such as file organization, witness notification, subpoena preparation and creating trial notebooks. If trial attendance is requested, accompany and assist attorney at trial with jury selection, note taking and witness notification.
Coordinate and confer with clients and experts
Work independently yet collectively with multiple Attorneys
Proactively updating, following up on and preparing files of high volume.
Position Requirements
• 6 to 9 years’ experience in a Paralegal role assisting multiple Attorneys.
• Paralegal certification or 4 year degree and 4 years experience can substitute for the minimum years required.
• Background in Defense Base Act litigation a plus
• Background in Florida Workers’ Compensation litigation a plus
• Full knowledge of Florida Rules of Civil Procedure, trial preparation skills and familiarity with litigation/document management systems.
• Impeccable communication skills- written and verbal.
• Robust organizational skills.
• Technology savvy.
• Professional demeanor.
• Dependable and accountable for results.
• Understand the importance of timely execution and deadline conscious.
