Position Description:
The AIG Property Casualty (AIGPC) Law Department has a high-profile opportunity in its Regulatory Group for an Associate General Counsel in AIG’s New York Office. The Regulatory Group of the AIGPC Law Department addresses legal, regulatory and compliance issues affecting AIG companies’ operations. The candidate will report to the Senior Associate General Counsel and the following performance objectives of the position could include, among others:
• Assisting in strategic projects and other matters. Projects will include analysis of legal and regulatory issues and execution of strategies related to such issues, as well as the handling of significant regulatory matters.
• Maintaining primary responsibility for providing legal and regulatory counsel and support to a variety of service center units, including Regulatory Reporting, Premium Audit, Comptrollers, and Corporate Communications.
• Providing legal and regulatory counsel on a variety of ad hoc regulatory matters, including remediation or remedial action plans, proposed Consent Orders from regulatory bodies, and issues relating to underwriting and claims-related matters.
• Providing support and guidance on legal and regulatory matters in connection with market conduct exams, consumer complaints, and form/rate filings, as necessary.
• Supporting projects to prepare for AIG’s regulation by the Federal Reserve Bank.
• Reviewing and providing guidance on proposed insurance and insurance-related legislation and regulations.
• Other duties, as assigned.
Position Requirements
• Minimum of 6-9 years’ experience in a law firm and/or corporation with an insurance-related focus, with experience in-house at an insurer or other organization related to workers compensation or regulatory reporting preferred.
• Background in property casualty insurance regulatory law, with particular expertise in workers compensation and regulatory reporting.
• Admitted to the Bar of a U.S. state/jurisdiction.
• Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
• Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills.
• Strong leadership qualities, including the ability, willingness and confidence to manage large and diverse project teams and to act independently in interactions and negotiations with internal clients, regulators, and quasi-regulators.
